Job description
As a Senior Hardware Engineer…
you are the technical driver behind our hardware. You oversee the bigger picture, dive deep where necessary, and ensure our next-generation IoT modules are not only smart, but also robust, testable and certifiable.
You are our rock in the surf — not because everything moves forward calmly here (spoiler: it doesn’t), but because you thrive in an environment where things are being built and you remain steady and structured. In a scale-up, that means freedom, responsibility and sometimes a roadmap that needs to be made a bit smarter along the way. That doesn’t throw you off; you turn it into structure.
You coach one hardware engineer within the team and manage external development partners and suppliers. No heavy management layers, but plenty of ownership.
What will you be doing?
You are technically end-responsible for electronics hardware design for outdoor IoT products (from concept to delivery).
You coach and guide one hardware engineer in day-to-day collaboration (stand-ups, priorities, technical sparring).
You identify hardware development requirements driven by product innovation and translate them into clear specifications and an actionable approach.
You collaborate closely with firmware, data and connectivity teams to ensure smooth integration (Sub-GHz, LTE-M/NB-IoT, GPS).
You manage external development partners and safeguard quality, timelines and knowledge transfer.
You coordinate testing, validation and certification (including CE, IP67, battery safety, HALT/HAST).
You stimulate modularization and scalability, enabling faster scaling and smarter outsourcing.
You contribute to the product roadmap (battery lifetime, environmental durability, connectivity upgrades) together with Solution Engineering and Sales.
Job requirements
What do you bring?
At least 8 years of experience in electronics hardware design (preferably in IoT, wireless or robust embedded systems).
Experience across the full hardware lifecycle: concept → design → testing → certification.
Knowledge of certification and testing standards such as CE, IP classifications (IP67) and battery safety (HALT/HAST is a plus).
A strong quality-driven mindset (e.g. Design for Manufacturability and/or Design for Six Sigma).
Experience managing external partners/suppliers and confident in taking a strong coordinating role.
Clear communicator: able to explain complex technical decisions to both engineers and stakeholders.
About the team & organization
Dutch IoT Solutions (DIS) is the hardware and firmware center of Bright Technology Ventures. We design and manufacture robust IoT devices that are deployed daily in demanding environments such as retail, FMCG and logistics.
At DIS, we develop our hardware and firmware fully in-house, from energy-efficient beacons to advanced asset trackers. This end-to-end approach allows us to maintain maximum control over quality, reliability and battery performance. Our devices are designed for long-term use, high volumes and the realities of logistics environments.
All DIS hardware is manufactured in Europe. This enables us to innovate quickly, safeguard high quality standards and collaborate closely with the other labels within Bright Technology Ventures.
Our solutions form the physical foundation of applications such as Connected Load Carrier (CLC). Without reliable hardware, there is no reliable data — and that’s exactly where our strength lies.
As part of the BTV ecosystem, we collaborate with specialists in connectivity, software and data intelligence. This ensures our devices are not only technically strong, but also seamlessly integrated within complete end-to-end IoT solutions.
You will join a technical scale-up environment where hardware, firmware, data and connectivity work closely together. We build outdoor IoT solutions (beacons/trackers) that need to perform in real life — rain, cold, heat, vibration… you name it. Short lines of communication, significant responsibility, and the space to simply build things the right way.
What we offer
Working in a scale-up: short lines, high ownership, fast decision-making;
Collaboration with driven professionals who value expertise over hierarchy;
Competitive employment conditions fitting our current scale-up phase;
Plenty of room for ideas, improvement and healthy technical ownership;
Flexible working hours and hybrid working options — though we do expect your friendly personality to brighten up the office regularly (Brabant-style gezelligheid is never mandatory, but definitely encouraged);
Flexible number of vacation days: as long as we deliver what’s needed, there’s room for flexibility;
Daily shared lunch where work talk is optional;
Fun team outings, Thursday or Friday drinks, and plenty of laughter alongside hard work;
Opportunity to participate in our bike plan;
Travel allowance of €0.23 per kilometer or an NS Business Card;
Of course, we contribute to your pension plan.
Interested?
Does this sound like your sweet spot — technically strong, pragmatic, and energized by making things truly production-ready? Then apply!
You are always welcome to add a creative motivation letter — not required, but we do enjoy being surprised. For questions, you can email r.vdvorst@btv-iot.com and he will get back to you as soon as possible.
Hope to speak to you soon!
